  17. <p>     Barbra Streisand performs live about as often as J.D.
  18. Salinger goes on a book tour. In the past six years, the world's
  19. most notoriously concert-shy crooner has served up live melody
  20. for the masses just twice: once in 1986 at a Democratic fund
  21. raiser, and again on Sept. 16 at a star-studded L.A. benefit for
  22. a man named Bill Clinton. "What motivates me this time is the
  23. possibility of George Bush and Dan Quayle being re-elected," she
  24. told the audience. Babs delivered It Had to Be You and four
  25. other favorites to a crowd of 1,000 and to the delirious delight
  26. of candidate Clinton.
